Katie was born at Carroll County Hospital Center in Westminster, Maryland during the blizzard of 1996. She grew up in Westminster with her parents and two older brothers. As a child, Katie was adventurous, curious and full of spirit. She was highly active in her church, her community, athletics and in school.
Katie attended Mechanicsville Elementary School, Westminster West Middle School, and then Westminster High School; graduating in the Class of 2014. Throughout her years in school, Katie played basketball for Westminster Rec, Central Maryland Attitude, and then as an Owl at Westminster High School. During high school, Katie was a member of National Honor Society and spent many hours volunteering her time in the community. Her passion for transforming the education system began during her senior year when she participated in TED (The Entrepreneur's Discussion) with the Global Women's Leadership Group. At this discussion, Katie spoke about the inequity Maryland youth faced within systems. Little did she know, this
would become the platform for her future.
Attending Salisbury University to obtain her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Katie became increasingly aware about the challenges minority and low-income children faced both in and out of school. Katie worked with several nonprofits across the state of Maryland before starting her own organization to address these issues.
In December of 2016, at 19 years old, Katie founded Together We Own It (TWOI). TWOI is a nonprofit serving children and families impacted by trauma through group mentoring programs and advocacy efforts. After graduating college, Katie moved back home to Westminster and opened her first youth center on Main Street. Through Katie's leadership, TWOI has served thousands of children and families across Carroll County.
In May 2020, Katie married her high school sweetheart, Bryce. The couple live in Union Bridge with their two dogs, Kobe and Madison and welcomed their first born son, Tucker, into the world in October 2021!
